emma rae's story
In June of 2015, Emma Rae was diagnosed with Pre-B ALL. She had been sick on and off for a little while, but parents Lauren and Jason assumed it was just bad luck. After doing some independent research they had suspicions that it might be leukemia, but tried hard to push what they thought was just irrationality.
One day before the family was set to relocate for Jason's military transfer, the family went for blood work. Although they had a hunch about the news they would receive, it didn't make it any easier. Their baby girl was sick. Rather than continuing the military transfer, the family made a quick decision to pursue her care locally.
Right around the time of her starting treatment, the family welcomed a 5th member to the family, a fluffy friend with a golden red coat. Little Red, as he was known, quickly made his presence known when he seemed to recognize that Emma Rae wasn't feeling well. Jumping atop her bed to keep her company during bouts of nausea and discomfort, Little Red became a warm friend during Emma Rae's journey.
Just a small toddler when she was diagnosed, Emma Rae was forced to grow up quickly. And oh, what a fighter she is! Recently celebrating her ninth birthday and three years cancer free, Emma Rae is committed to paying it forward to other families fighting cancer. She's been heavily involved with the Rally Foundation to further childhood cancer research.
